Mid Hudson WonderDome Submarine

When the Mid Hudson Discovery Museum reached out to us, we knew we were the perfect fit to add to their collection of exhibits centering play and natural science. Many of these pieces are tailored towards a younger audience, fitting snugly into their River Lab submarine, but are designed for hands-on learning of all ages. Upon first glance, you’ll notice the interactive Salt Front that sits six feet tall. This exhibit will test your knowledge in how to create the longest (or shortest salt!) front up the Hudson River. Using cleverly designed pneumatics hidden in a robust cabinet construction, the Salt Front was built for exceptional hands-on experimentation in mind.

After fully stepping into the River Lab submarine, you’ll find several deliberately crafted exhibits that combine play with learning. At the center, is a fully touchable topographic map of the Hudson River from New York City to Poughkeepsie. Unlike so many maps created just for show, we wanted this one to be interactive, allowing visitors to fully experience a model of the region. The map was CNC’d onto MDF plywood and then hand painted in-house to give it the realistic bird’s eye view of the Hudson River Valley.
